Are you looking to boost your income, pay off debt, or build up your savings? If so, a side hustle may be just the thing that you need to help you accomplish your goals. A side hustle is a way to earn additional income apart from your full-time job.

Side hustles are often referred to as moonlighting because you work these jobs in the evenings or at night after you clock out from your regular job. These after-hours jobs can be used to supplement your income, learn new skills, or experiment with new interests. Side hustles are great for anyone that is hungry for more and willing to work for it.

In today’s world, you can turn anything into a side hustle. Do you have an extra room in your home? You can rent it out through Airbnb. Do you like coding or programming computers? Try developing an app in your spare time. Are you a teacher? There are opportunities for certified teachers to teach online classes before or after their day job. The list goes on and on. The more creative you are, the more money you have the opportunity to make. Now that you know what a side hustle is, let’s talk about why you need to start one now.

Side Hustle

Bring In Additional Income

I don’t want you to get the wrong idea so I will tell you this upfront. You will NOT get rich quick by taking on a side hustle. Now that we have that out of the way, wouldn’t it be nice to bring in extra money each month? Think about all of the things that you could do with an extra $100-$1,000 per month. It doesn’t look like much but when you couple it with the income that you already bring in each month, you will have a bit of breathing room in your budget.

Pay Down Debt

Getting out of debt is my number one goal, which is the reason that I have a few side hustles of my own. You may be like me and have student loans or medical debt. Money from your full-time job goes directly to bills, food, and things that need to be done around the house. You are most likely chipping away at your debt, but it is moving slowly.

A side hustle will provide you the opportunity to chip away at your debt a bit faster. If you’re looking to pay off debt, use the money that you make from your side hustle to make additional payments towards your debt throughout the month. If you have a steady income from your side hustle, you will be completely out of debt in no time.

Explore Your Interests And Develop Your Talents

Having a side hustle gives you the option to explore things that you enjoy while making money. Side hustles also give you the opportunity to further develop the talents that you already have. If you enjoy applying makeup, why not work on the weekends as a makeup artist for photo shoots and weddings? If you enjoy writing, like me, try your hand at freelance or ghostwriting. You could even take it a step further and start a blog if you’re adventurous. Think about anything that you enjoy doing and be creative about making money doing that thing. This is where the “hustle” part comes in. People will pay for your services, you just have to market yourself.

Increase Your Emergency Fund

If you have heard of Dave Ramsey, you would know that he encourages a good side hustle to build up your emergency fund. Financial Peace University actually gave me the push that I needed to start my side hustle. At the time that I took the course, I did not have an emergency fund. I started freelance writing and I put every penny that I made in the bank until I reached my emergency fund goal. My emergency fund would have taken a lot longer to fund had I not started a side hustle. If you find yourself in a similar position, do not be afraid to start a side hustle.

Side Hustle

Quit Your Job

A lot of times people end up really loving their side hustles. So much that they work hard and turn them into careers. I have seen so many bloggers start their blogs as a side hustle and end up quitting their jobs. If you find something that you love to do, work towards doing that thing for the rest of your life by any means necessary. Take courses and attend conferences to perfect your craft. When you finally find that thing that you love, you will never “work” another day in your life. Imagine doing the thing that you love every day and making enough money to replace your full-time income. This is an awesome opportunity if you can make it work. Never doubt the power of starting a side hustle.
